What Michael Says...
The first two Star Trek films were about getting the Enterprise out into deep space and then something happens that pulls them closer to home, so they hadn’t yet started their long voyage into the universe that we are familiar with from the original series. In Beyond, we find the crew finally out on their mission for some time, so this presented opportunities for me to create a new musical landscape. There is a more hopeful feeling, we are on an exploratory adventure. This film feels more like an action-packed version of an episode from the original show, and I wanted the music to evoke that feeling.
